Gold Crowns Portland, OR
At our dental office in Portland, OR, we always want our patients to have a wide variety of options to choose from when they have to have dental work done. We understand that not everyone is interested in the same things for the same reasons, so we go above and beyond to offer our patients a bevy of options. Dental crowns can be made from a wide variety of materials, each with their unique properties. Gold is one of the most impressive dental materials that we have at our disposal because it is long lasting, durable, and beautiful.
Gold in Dentistry
Gold is easily one of the most successful dental restoration materials in history. For hundreds of years, gold has been used to restore teeth and give dental patients back their ability to eat and speak with confidence. Gold has been so successful in dental restorations and crowns because of it’s unique properties. It does not corrode, and therefore can be a long-lasting fixture even in the challenging environment of the mouth. It is extremely durable and almost never cracks or needs to be fixed due to damage. Gold is a soft metal, making it easy to melt down and cast into whatever shape is needed to fulfill your dental restorations.
All of these benefits, when coupled with the unique beauty of a gold dental restoration or crown, make gold fantastic options for anyone who is having a dental crown placed.
The procedure to have a gold dental crown placed is similar to that of any other dental crown. It usually takes two trips to our office to plan for, create, and finally place a gold dental crown. During your first visit, we will take an impression of the tooth that needs the crown. We will send this impression to our dental lab where skilled lab technicians will use it to create a replica of your tooth out of gold.
Once we have the impression done, we will apply a local anesthetic to the area around the tooth that we will be working on so you don’t feel any discomfort. We will prepare your tooth to receive the dental crown, which means we will be using a special tool to shave off a decent amount of the enamel from the outside of your tooth. We do this so that the crown will fit over the top of the tooth while still looking natural in size and shape. Once the tooth has been shaped appropriately, we will place a temporary crown on it your first appointment with us will be done.
It will take a few weeks for the dental lab to craft your new gold dental crown. When it is done, it will be time for you to return to our office. We will remove the temporary dental crown and place the permanent gold crown onto your tooth. We will make sure that it fits your bite appropriately.
We are confident that you will love the look, feel, and practicality of your new dental crown, so give us a call today at (503) 822-0262 to schedule your appointment.
