The cold season is likely to put strain on your oral health, and not just because of Thanksgiving, Christmas or Halloween, but also because people tend to eat more frequently in winter.

The body needs more fuel to keep warm, and your calorie intake may step up. What you should be wary of is that the kind of food and drinks you are taking and the frequency you take them may impact on your oral and overall health.

Your Eating Habit In Winter Can Harm Your Teeth

Obviously, you will get the urge to eat more, something that may result in weight gain during the winter. That's one risk you are facing, but did you know there is another hidden danger? When you eat frequently, your oral health may suffer too.

Taking food more frequently can increase your chances of having cavities since you tend to have more sugars and foods that weaken your enamel. Carb-loaded foods can surely do more harm than good during winter. They can increase acids in your mouth that erode the enamel.

Foods Choices in Winter for a Good Oral Health

If you are eating frequently this winter, there are healthy foods to help you check your weight and oral health. You can have root vegetables, including beets and carrots, which are low in sugar.

Cruciferous vegetable such as the cauliflower and broccoli tend to be fibrous and when you eat them, they help in preventing plaque from forming in your mouth. The dark, leafy vegetables rich in fiber help remove acids that could destroy your tooth enamel.
